July 28
Dear Jack,-
We were all sitting here after dinner, and I said I thought it would be fun if we would write to yu kids, so here goes-but for the life of me I don't know what to say-news is so scarce.
I sure are glad you found a nice girl and are having fun.  Don seems to be drilling with rifles & he says every time they turn a corner you have to "juke" your head so you don't get hit with a rifle by the other guy.  I guess they aren't used to that sort of training.
Vince Lauer is still home and when I saw him to-day I asked him if he was ready to go back--and he said--"Not yet".  Jim Collins was rejected again by the navy.  He has sugar in his urine.  He is so disgusted as he wants in the navy.  Finny says they are betting in his office that the war in Germnay will be over in 3 months and the Jap in 6 more.  But I don't know.  I hope so anyhow.
I never see anything of the Glasses.  I guess Nellie is still up in Erie.  I don't thing tho that Don is so overly in love--anyhow. And I think Cassie is too young to know her own mind.  What do you think?
Well--I think I'll ring off now & relax a little.  It sure does me out to cook for a lot of people.
I hope you get a long furlough when you finished.  Take all the schooling you can get---maybe by that time the worst of the sea battles will be over.  Write when you can.
                        Love---Omie
