May 26 45 Dear Jack:     This book came for you but I had to take it out of the envelope as it would not fit in the air mail  one.  There maybe something in it that would interest you.  I am going down now to have my hair done.  It is raining for a change we wanted to go to that cemetery but will have to wait until Monday Evening. I guess.  It is still cool here.  Albert Thorne was up yesterday he looks fine only he is seal grey.  Well Jack I guess there is nothing new so will close hopping to hear from you soon.               Love Grandma

May 22-45 Dear Jack:     I received your letter and of course I was afraid you would be sent to the Pacific.  I sent you a letter that came here from an OUS.  I think maybe his name was Kennedy but are not sure.  I hope you get it as I sent it to N.Y.  Am sending you two books and will send more also going in town to get you the socks.  I toud you in the other letter.  Finny is working so I will bank your money for you.  We are having warmer weather the last 2 days but the paper has rain today.  The Ianstone twins each have 92 piruts but I don't think that would leave them out of the army.  I am suppose to go up to the farm this week end with Dick and Irene.  Lester Watson who lives in back in the house with Cotter's is to leave the 31st of this month.  Well Jack be good and we will all be praying that it ends soon and you will soon be home.  Write as often as you can.          Love,  ...

When everything is all over everyone should get on their knees and fold their hand and say "Thank God" and mean it from the very bottom of their hearts.  Everything in our little town was quiet on V.E. Day, and the churches were packed, all places serving alcoholic drinks were closed, everyone staying close to home in the daytime listening...

May 2 1945 Dear Jack:     Well I am still cleaning house.  I certainly will be glad when it is over.  I think I'll take it easy all summer.  Mrs Graham moved and the new people have moved in.  There name is Gibbons  Well we had an awful heavy frost again this morning I guess there will not be much fruit.  This was club day it was at your grandmother Reitz.  Alice did not write and let us know of Finny was allowed to go to work or not.  I don't think the Dr. would allow him to yet.  I see Red Sheridan is home.  Well Jack I don't know anything new so will close hoping this finds you well and write when you can.                         Love                         Grandma

Sunday May Dear Jack:--     Well-we are still wondering where you are and if you are getting your mail.     The Japs are putting out peace feelers--but it falls short of unconditional surrender.  There must be something to it--but I guess its too good to hope for.  Some of our leaders think the Japs will fold up suddenly--     Russie is on Palian (spelling) Island, maybe you will run into him.     Ross Janes came home last week after 23 months over there.  He looks good and sure is glad to be back.  He will be home for 30 days and then hopes to go to China.  Rich Rea is on the Squalies sub.  They had some trouble on their first run.  Couldn't get the sub up again.  Vince & Harry are home for 30 days.     Bob cleaned the pool today and Chick cleaned the car & the porch.  Now if the weather would get warm we could sit out.  It has been awfully cold.     Would you li...
