May 25 1945 From Alice

Dear Jack: I guess it's about time I answered your letter. We are always glad to hear from you. Finny & I are feeling fine now but his leg still swells up like a balloon but he is working everyday. I don't think it will ever be normal again. It sure was nice to spend those 2 weeks at home. I wish we could move back there. Maybe someday we can. I had a letter from Don so I just got finished answering it. This makes the 6th letter I've written this morning. I'm getting good. Dave still has his paper route and his girls. Last nite 3 of them called on him but we were (can't read) rummy and he (can't read) go out. He's a riot. And Judy teases him all the time then they start banging each other around. It's one continual brawl. We went to the circus last Sunday and Dave bought a lizard. Yesterday it got out of it's box and we didn't find it until today. I'm scared sick of the thing. Judy lets it climb all over her. I finally got her going to Sunday School and she likes it a lot but so far I haven't noticed any change in here. I guess the lessons haven't started to sink in yet.
I think it would be a good idea to take that correspondence course. Maybe if you had something like that to occupy your mind, you wouldn't feel so discontented. Did Mom tell you how Judy carried your picture around when we were down (unreadable). She also found one of your blue sailor hats and wore that around all the time.
I guess where ever you are now it's good and hot. Thats more than I can say. We have had the furnace going all month and it rained for 17 days in a row. It's cold and raining today. I'm enclosing a picture of Dave taken at school last month. He will be in high school in the fall. Judy was at a birthday party last nite and won a prize for pinning the tail on the donkey. We are going to the zoo this Sunday if its nice. Do you know Ed Batz was reported missing but was found and liberated when Germany surrendered? Well its lunch time and the kids will be home from school. Take care of yourself.
Love and good luck
Alice
