April 1 1945 From Omie
April 1 Easter
Dear Jack;-
Had a letter from Don yesterday and he said he heard from Rich & he is having lots of fun in Conn but I don't know his address. Said Rich didn't expect to be there much longer.
This was a very quiet Easter, but I can't help thinking back when you & Don were little and we had so much candy we didn't know what to do with it.
Drew Pearson (the commentator) said today the war in Germany would end in April-we would attack & invade the Main islands in Japan and the war over there would be over in 1945. I hope so.
If you happen to write to Alice don't mention Edward Batz as we haven't told them. Grandma called Alice today and she said Finny is feeling fine but has an infected tooth now. Its one thing after another.
We are still having nice weather and all the blossoms are out, so I hope we don't have a freez
We went to the cemetery yesterday & put flowers on all the graves Friday nite we all went to church and took communion. The churches were filled so I guess people realize that we can't go our selfish way and expect to get along. I think everyone is praying this will be the last year of war. It would be like heaven to have you kids home again for good.
Have you any idea when you will be leaving? I hope not for a long time.
Jim Collins is home for 12 days. He was on a shakedown cruise to Trinidad. He is on a light cruiser. Outside of that everything is as dead as ever.
Write when you can and write often to Granma in case you go out.-
Love-Omie
