Feb 20

Dear Jack-
Well- after a week of no snow-here it is snowing again, and I thought spring was here.  Bud Law is home for 25 days and he is sure hoping you get home before he goes--so you can the the town read-but- I told him I didn't know whether I would let you two go out together or not.
Mac Marshall is home, too.  Chick was talking to him down street.  He was in the New Hebrides & Marianas.  He is home for 30 days.  He told Chick he wanted to come out of this war clean, not like his Dad did in the last war.  You know that is what is wrong with his Dad.  Chick asked him how he knew and he said his mother told him before he left.  He has saved $1000 besides what he sent his mother.  Chick said the way he talked he likes the Krenz girl but doesn't know how Rev. Krenz would feel about it, as he hasn't the education she has.  Chick told him it isn't the education that makes the man.  He is a Petty Officer first class.
I also heard a good one about Jimmy DeLong.  Altho I'm not a bit surprised.  Seems as though he was determined to have an office job in the Army.  We he got one 8AM to 4PM and weekends off.  Takes his uniform off every chance he gets & won't eat mess with the rest of the boys.  When he was home on his furlough he wouldn't wear his uniform.  Bud says he must be having a hell of a time in the Army.
I had 3 letters from Don in the last 2 days.  He says his mail isn't coming in very well.  He said their chaplain took them to an Indian Mission.  The sermon was in Hindustan but the preacher (Indian) explain it to them in Engish.
By the way--when you come bring a supply of cigs as they are hard to get.  Alice can't get hardly any.
I hear Bob Miller is in India.  I don't know his A.P.O.  So I don't know if he is near Don or not.
Well I guess Johnny Ireland fell like a ton of bricks for Isabelle McLaughlin.  They were up here several times and sure can down their liquor.  He is going out again to the European theatre.  Harvey Graham was home too--he is going overseas soon.  I saw in the paper where Jim Sellars who is in France was promoted from Private to PFC.  That's a far cry from his Day Saying he would be an officer or else.  I hear Herbie Mosca is up for captaincy.  Also he is expecting to get home.
Well-honey guess this is all I know for this trip.  I hope the snow doesn't keep me on the hill as long this time.
        Love,
            Omie
