Dear Jack: -
Well - it looks as though the Japs have decided to fight it out.  I had hoped they would give up.  We are following your battles day by day by radio - & we have an idea of what you are going thru.  It hardly seems possible that we are here so safe and you boys are going thru so much.
I had 2 letters from Don yesterday & one from Russie.  Russie is in the Western Pacific.  Don says the rains are so bad they are using them for showers.
Bob is still working but is going to quit in about 3 weeks.  The Shrine picnic is on Friday, so I guess we will take the kids.  Dave & Judy look forward to it.  Finny hasn't heard anything from the Civil Service yet.  I hope he does soon.
I hear Bud Law is to be married Aug. 7  The Dope!  By the way everyone is marrying or getting themselves engaged you & Don better hurry up.
Now don't laugh but I'm thinking seriously of sending for my drivers license.  Ha!  I guess I never will take the test.  I can just hear you saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Ross Jones is being sent to the Pacific again.  He leaves in a week for Calif.  He isn't crazy about going either.  I guess he's had enough of it.  He brought home some stones called Cat eyes and had them made up into a bracelet earrings and necklace for his mother.  They were very pretty.
Don't forget to keep on the look out for Rich Rea - He is on the sub_ "Squalies". Jimmy Collins is on a light cruiser  - out that way.  I think it is The Amsterdam.  Before this thing is over you will probably see several boys you know.
Bob is still working & is getting a little thinner I guess.  He is going to work 3 more weeks.
The garden is still slow.  I guess we won't get tomatoes until Sept.
Well -- honey its time for Chick to go to work, so I'll close & get this off to you.  You are always in our thoughts & I hope everything is going as well as can be expected.
                                Love - Omie
